Michigan Union Boss Whines About Right to Work

Over at the Times Herald’s opinion section, another union boss whined about the growing Right to Work movement in Michigan. The ex construction union chief had this to say:

“If Michigan becomes a right-to-work state, you might as well pack your bags and leave it.”

The problem is (as we have repeatedly reported here) Michiganders are already leaving the state – precisely because of Big Labor’s forced unionism stranglehold. The lack of a Right to Work law has not only deprived employees of their freedom of association, but it has also contributed to Michigan’s skyrocketing unemployment levels and heavy taxes.

Right to Work laws guarantee that no person can be compelled, as a condition of employment, to join or not to join, nor to pay dues to a labor union. It’s no wonder Michiganders are packing their bags for Right to Work states.

Let’s hope that this situation changes before the state’s economy collapses.

Union Bosses Fear Free Workers

T. J., the former union boss from Port Huron, said “A right-to-work state kills unions.”

Since a right to work law merely makes support of a labor union voluntary, his statement can only be true if labor unions can survive only through coercion. When workers are free to choose whether or not to support a union based on its performance, poor performing organizations will wither and effective unions that are responsive to its members will grow. It is easy to see why corrupt and feckless union officials fear allowing workers the right to choose.

unions not for people

I DON'T THINK ALL UNIONS ARE BAD IN MICHIGAN,JUST THE ONE'S THAT ORGANA NIZING IN LAST YEARS ARE INTERESTED COLLECTING UNION DUES,NOT HELPING HELPING ALL THE MEMBERSHIP AS EMPLOYEE'S,LOOM AT THE TRACK RECORD OF DANA CORP WHICH IS DOING UNDER HAND STUFF ABOUT "CARD CHECKING" WHICH IS TRUE,I'M A WITNESS TO THE ACTION ! I WAS EMPLOYED BY DANA CORP FOR 44 YEARS.THAN I WAS FORCE TO RETIRED EARLY BECAUSE OF A PERFECT SET UP BY THE COMPANY AND SUPPORT BY THE UNION.LET ME EXPLAIN HOW !! YOU MUST LOOK AT THIS FIRST TO MAKE IT CLEAR FOR YOU.

I WAS TERMINATED THAN LATER RETIRED WITH NO HELP FROM THE UNION.LETS STARTED WHY!!!!!! LAST YEAR I WAS ESCORTED OUT OF THE BUILDING ORDERED BY MANAGERMENT BY TWO LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER'S REASON IS THE DAY BEFORE THREE WITNESS SAID THAT I WAS PARADING AROUND WAVING THE MOVIE 'falling down" OVER MY HEAD!!! WHICH THE COMPANY ASKED ME ABOUT. I TOLD THEM THIS I HAVE NEVER OWNED OR HANDLED THIS MOVIE IN MY LIFE. THE UNION SAID THAT I'M GUILITY BECAUSE THE COMPANY HAS WITNESS AND YOU HAVE NONE.BUT FOR YEARS. this ENTIRE statement is

this ENTIRE statement is impossible to read. consider yourself lucky that you have EVER had a job, as you are obviously WAY under-educated. i am now dumber simply for having read it. you obviously did not spend one second rereading what you wrote (i hope), but if so, then you are in dire straits as you lack any type of formal education. burger king just called for you.

i you are so stupid and vote

i you are so stupid and vote or right to work might as well call it right to be poor

Stupidity will out

After 35 years living in Right to Work states, and always being able to secure employment that fit my education, talents, and desires, I find myself in Michigan, holding a master's degree in human resources, and working at the EXACT same job as I held with a high school diploma. Why?

Because Michigan's economy is the worst in the country. People are selling their homes, when they can, at 2/3 of what they paid just six years ago. Unemployment is among the highest in the country, almost 8 percent.

Again, why? We've seen the heaviest unionized industries deteriorate and all but die in this country - shipping, bussing, steel, and now the automotive industry. Thanks a heap, UAW. You really have Michigan workers' best interests at heart, at least those fraction of your former members who still have jobs. I'm so happy that GM's retirees have their healthcare still. Too bad so many ancillary companies have gone under to have that be true, because GM had to cut back staff and close/idle plants so that it could maintain the ridiculous union giveaways.

I'm glad the UAW now has to shoulder the pension funds. Now maybe it will go under and let American business do what it does best, get our economy rolling again and provide some jobs!!

if a right to work state is
